Trip and fall accidents
are the
leading cause of nonfatal injuries for children under 14, sending millions of children to Emergency Rooms (ER) each year to be treated. Plenty of these mishaps are due to improper shoelace tying techniques but mostly shoelace failure (Laces that become undone) which result in accidents. As a result it causes millions of dollers in loss wages and time. However, there are other visits that end up diagnoising a more serious condition.
Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) is a serious public health problem in the United States, TBI contributes to a substantial number of deaths and cases of permanent disability annually. 1.4 million people sustain a TBI each year in the United States and 50,000 die, 235,000 are hospitalized, and 1.1 million are treated and released from an ER.
Among children ages 0 to 14
years, TBI results in an estimated annual 2,685 deaths, 37,000 hospitalizations, 435,000 emergency departments visits. The leading causes is Falls (28%), followed by Motor vehicle-traffic crashes
(20%), Struck by/against events
(19%) and Assults (11%).
*The number of people with TBI who are not seen in an emergency department or who recieve no care is unknown.
